I've been on the move since I arrived on this planet. Growing up, I lived everywhere from New Zealand to Saudi Arabia before settling in Los Angeles. I was first introduced to yoga while getting my BFA at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts. After graduating, I made a nice career for myself, performing in regional theaters throughout the country. In each new place, I was housed near a yoga studio, lived with a yogi, or was performing with a yoga teacher/slash actor. I slowly began to realize yoga was stalking me! Through a series of serendipitous events, I found myself in my first yoga teacher training. I spent much of that training sweating, shaking, crying, and waiting for someone to show up and kick me out for not looking like what I thought a yoga teacher should look like. Who would want to learn from a girl with big thighs, fleshy hips, and that still needed assistance kicking into handstand?! About halfway through, something amazing happened. I started getting stronger; physically, yes, but more importantly, mentally. Being present with myself through the movement of my breath and my body allowed me to still my mind. I stopped judging myself, and instead embraced the perfection of the imperfections that make me, me.
This is continual work, but yoga gave me a bunch of tools to help me along the journey, and it is my hope to help illuminate the path for others to do the same. My classes are challenging and playful, ranging from therapeutic work to advanced vinyasa flow. My big, strong, beautiful thighs have now been a part of ad campaigns in Yoga Journal, LA Yoga, and Om Yoga Magazine, as well as the walls of Lululemon as one of their brand ambassadors. I aim to offer a balance of the physical and the philosophical, inviting the body and mind to unfold through detail to alignment, breath, meditation, laughter, joy, and always a bit of sass. As yoga continues to take me all over the world, it is on my mat that I have truly found home.
