Growing up in Los Angeles, I was introduced to yoga at a young age. I dabbled with it on and off until my health took a nosedive in 2008. When I asked the doctor why I was repeatedly sick, he suggested I quit smoking cigarettes and stop drinking. I noticed that after taking yoga, I felt less stressed - less like I needed the comfort of a whiskey shot and a smoke. So I quit smoking and signed up for a teacher training in 2010 at San Francisco’s Yoga to the People. I began teaching there and taught at YTTP studios in Seattle, Arizona, and finally New York.
2012 in New York, I was introduced to Sri Dharma Mittra and studied 500 hours with him. With Dharma, I learned the yoga of devotion: Bhakti Yoga. In 2013, I went back to San Francisco to become Rocket Yoga certified at Asta Yoga. Rocket Yoga is a form of Ashtanga that invites advanced postures to all levels. In 2014, I moved back to Los Angeles and in 2016 I took the 200-hour YogaWorks training with Mia Togo. In Mia’s training, I learned YogaWorks teaching theory and also what spiritual bypassing was, which ended up being very transformative for me personally. In 2017 I studied with Jo Phee and Jo Barnett 200-hour Yin Yoga. With Jo Phee and Jo Barnett, I learned how to become curious about the students' anatomy and by changing their alignment to bring them into their most functional stretch.
What I hope as a teacher is to give the gifts to students that my teachers gave me: To find strength and sensitivity in the practice. To find health and vitality in a safe and engaging way. To loosen the mind from thinking patterns that do not serve. To learn how to love oneself and others in a more meaningful and authentic way.
PS. My health improved quite a bit after quitting smoking, drinking, and doing yoga daily!
